Comfort food loved by the citizens of Fukui
People imagine "Katsudon," being a bowl of rice topped with a deep-fried pork cutlet, egg, vegetables and condiments. However, the citizens of Fukui enjoy a different dish called the "Sauce Katsu Don," which is a bowl of rice with cutlet fried with fine bread crumbs covered with sweet and spicy sauce. The stimulating smell of the sauce is very appetizing to the citizens of Fukui, which is why the "Sauce Katsu Don" is said to be their comfort food.

Fresh seafood caught in the Sea of Japan
Fukui is located along the Sea of Japan and Wakasa Bay. The citizens of Fukui are proud of their favorable environments, such as the complicated tide flow caused by natural reefs, the cold yet pure sea waters affected by the cold weather during winter and an abundance of seafood. There are also fishing grounds by the sea where you can eat freshly caught seafood.

Yakitori
Pure chicken loved by the citizens of Fukui
Fukui prefecture consumes the most yakitori (Japanese style skewered chicken) in Japan! The most popular part is the thigh and skin of a female chicken called "Junkei." The more you chew, the more delicious it is and it goes very well with beer.

Echizen oroshi soba
The aromatic taste of home
Fukui is blessed with land with fertile soil and plentiful high-quality groundwater, a perfect environment for harvestesting fragrant buckwheat noodles known as “soba.” "Echizen oroshi soba" served with grated radish, green onions and dried bonito is the so called taste of home, and is loved by the citizens of Fukui. There are many facilities in Fukui that allow you to experience making soba, and enjoy the taste of the freshly made noodles that you made with your own hands.

Snow crab
The undisputed champion of a winter delicacy
When it comes to winter, no other food can beat the male snow crab. Snow crab fishing begins on November 6th, and the yellow tag is a symbol of the brand. The snow crab is the only crab offered to the imperial family of Japan. The sweet, fresh meat and the rich crab miso paste is very addicting. Please have a taste of the snow crabs at the restaurants along the coast.
